My thoughts on Episode 3 for Dr. Slump…. ( SPOILER ALERT…IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN EPISODE 3 PLEASE DON’T READ THIS!)

·

I really loved Episode 3, I also loved the first two episodes but this one was very heartwarming. First of all, you get to see how Jungwoo and Hanuel lived back in High School. Of course, Jungwoo was very popular with the girls which is very natural since he was the top student. He was the one and only top student before Hanuel came along but after she transferred over to his school, occasionally he would lose his number one spot. He was not only the top student but he’s also a very handsome guy and he’s also super sweet so what girl wouldn’t like him? I would fall head over heels for Yeo Jungwoo too.

II love the scene where he’s playing basketball back in High School and all the girls are going goo goo ga ga for him but Haneul’s like whatever. It’s funny cus she acts so disinterested and nonchalant even now as an adult which is kind of cute in a way….

There were so many scenes in this episode that I just can’t help but to re-watch over and over again. The night before, the two hugged and cried so I guess Haneul was embarrassed to face Jungwoo the next morning. She ran into Jungwoo coming down the stairs from the rooftop apartment and she used the big truck to hide behind it but after it left she had no choice but to face him. She was so awkward to face him so she tells him to get lost in the most awkward and funny way possible. And Jungwoo makes funny faces as he agrees to get lost for her.

I really love how Hyungsik is able to go from funny, silly, emotional, and serious in one show. He was always able to do that in all his other shows but so far in the last three episodes Shikkie was able to do that and he’s able to do comedy very well. His silliness kinda reminds me of Cha Dalbong from What Happens to my Family. I really love his cheesy antics in this show and his comedic acting so good, I want him to do comedy more because it makes me laugh out loud a lot…..

Jungwoo’s little rooftop apartment gets broken into by some mysterious man? Haneul’s mom is really nice to Jungwoo and I think he needs that since his mother seems really cold from her brief appearances so far. But Haneul’s mom is so hospitable that she seems to be concerned about her tenant more than she needs to be. Haneul’s mom asks her son Bada to go take some blankets upstairs cus Jungwoo doesn’t have warm blankets up there.

Haneul’s little brother Bada is unemployeed and always asks his mom to make him nice food. He doesn’t chip in that much but he wants to be constantly pampered with good food. Bada was chatting with some girl online, I’m guessing he was talking to someone on Kakao Talk or something. He got interrupted to go take some blanket upstairs and he discovers that his apartment got broken into so Hanuel’s mom offers him to sleep at the main house.

At first Jungwoo rejects the offer but he decides to go for it after Haneul shows that she cares about him even though she doesn’t want to admit it. Haneul reassures Jungwoo that what he’s going through isn’t his fault while helping him pick up the pieces of glass on the floor.

Haneul’s brother keeps on saying that Jungwoo looks familiar and asks about him then asks Jungwoo about his sister back in High School. What made me laugh was how Haneul told her brother that she wasn’t that close with Jungwoo when they were in school. Haneul admitted that she didn’t even eat Tttokbokki/Korean spicy rice cake because she was scared to be tempted to go to the arcade and then go karaoking and that would make her just want to play which she didn’t want to do.

Haneul gave up enjoying her life a little because she wanted to succeed so bad which is understandable in such a competitive world we live in. I laughed so hard when Jungwoo said out loud how her lie about the spicy rice cake thing was unbelievable since everyone loves Ttokbokki….

Ttokbokki is one of Shikkie’s favorite food since he loves spicy food, he’s a spicy food fanboy. Hyungsik was almost playing himself here with the spicy rice cake scene since his other characters didn’t like spicy food nor ttokbokki. Back in High Society, Jiyi offered Director Yoo to go eat spicy chicken feet and spicy rice cakes and he turned it down. And Ahn Minhyuk from Strong Woman Do Bongsoon couldn’t really eat spicy food. However, it seems like Jungwoo loves spicy rice cake and spicy food so he is practically playing himself, PARK HYUNGSIK!

I love how their relationship goes from enemies/rivals to acquaintances to friends. They already obviously care about each other but have a hard time admitting it. I think Jungwoo already accepted the fact that he wants to actually be friends with Hanuel and get to know her better. I don’t blame him since the guy that seemed to have everything lost everything overnight and nobody wants to accept him, not even his best friends from High School and his own parents.

Everyone thinks that Jungwoo really is the culprit behind the so called incident and Haneul is the only one saying he’s not the type that would do such a thing and he is innocent. Nobody is believing him that he’s innocent but his old rival from High School is backing him up so I could see how he is able to open up to her so fast.

Jungwoo understands where Haneul is coming from with her situation but he is not using the cliched remarks to cheer her up. He is cheering her up saying that it’s okay to be in a slump. They could just use this chance to rest and catch up with life. Especially with Haneul since she did not have a chance to really live because her whole life was school and work. I loved the part where they went to go get ice cream at a local ma and pa grocery store. At first she wasn’t gonna go eat ice cream with him when he offered it to her. But she changed her mind cus of her mom was trying to get her attention with some water and depression medication.

Jungwoo tells her now that she has all the time in the world and she could have some fun by doing things that she’s always wanted to do then she tells him about reading essay papers then he tells her that she’s crazy for wanting to do that while she is resting. I loved how Jungwoo just grabs her hand and takes her over to the spicy rice cake vendor.

I thought it was so romantic of them to look up at the sky while talking about life, eating some ice cream then go do some of the things that Haneul always wanted to do like eating spicy rice cake. Then he took her to the arcade and Jungwoo gave Haneul 10,000 won worth of game coins so they could play to their hearts content. They went to go play tetris cus Haneul wanted that then she sang some karaoke but she ended up singing Oh my darling Clementine. Jungwoo wanted her to sing a pop song but she didn’t know any. Hanuel practiced this song thousands of times so she was able to sing it perfectly. After everything was over Jungwoo gave her a homework assignment which was to practice a popular song/ Kpop song instead of an old American folk song called Clementine.

Jungwoo looks so good in sweats and hoodies. He wears all kinds of outfits in this show so it’s almost like a mix of several different characters that Shikkie played over the years. When everything was going great and he was Dr. Yeo the successful plastic Surgeon, he wore a nice pair of fancy suit which reminded me of Director Yoo/Yoo Changsoo from High Society. His regular casual clothes reminds me ofHan Seonwoo, Ahn Minhyuk, and Park Hyungsik himself. His more sporty/comfy outfits remind me of Dalbong, and Yihyun…..Hyungsik looks so good in anything and everything so it’s been an eye candy watching this new show of his.

It’s cute when Jungwoo talks about how he wants Haneul’s phone number. Jungwoo ends up sleeping in one of the spare rooms in the main house of the Nam Family. He accepted Haneul’s offer because he really had no other choice for his safety. Jungwoo was talking to himself about how Haneul is a good judge of character, she’s loyal/dutiful and he also admits to himself that she is kind of cute too. He tries to snap out of it though by trying his best to shake off what he said which made me laugh pretty hard.

Haneul got ripped off by her boss because she didnt get paid the way she’s supposed to so she went to her old job to talk about it but her friends/old colleagues gave her the cold shoulders saying that they don’t want to be seen with her. While she is out we see Jungwoo playing the angel and the devil. The angel Jungwoo wants to care about her while the devil Jungwoo doesn’t want to care about her and this whole segment made me crack up so hard. Then he talks to himself about being a good guy and go get a box of fruit for the Nam family for being so hospitable towards him when nobody in the world wants to accept a guy in his situation.

Bada finds out about who Jungwoo is and tells his mom about it which doesn’t seem to effect her too much. Jungwoo over hears the conversation and looked pretty down by his actual reality. Haneul realized that something was up with Jungwoo cus he was so happy going to the spicy rice cake vendor, to the arcade and karaoking but his mood seemed very different from earlier which made Haneul worry again.

Some guy that owns a plastic surgery business called the “Two face plastic surgery”. he was gonna be one of the witnesses for the court trial for Jungwoo but bailed out at the last minute. Haneul wanted to cheer him up by doing some research on his case. It’s a rare case but there was something similar to this in India not too long ago so she decided to use it as evidence. Haneul ran over to the courthouse to take the documents over to the judge but it didn’t work out so well……

The two were surrounded by bunch of aggressive reporters and journalists which made Haneul get injured in the hand. Jungwoo takes Haneul to his old plastic surgery office and treats her wound. I found this to be so cute and it made my heart beat. They weren’t supposed to touch each other. They weren’t gonna pinky swear during the early part of the episode because Haneul didn’t want to touch him but she ended up giving her hand to him. Also, she gave her hand to him unwillingly when he just grabbed it and took her to the spicy rice cake vendor.

I loved the beach scene because it kinda reminded me of the scene between Minmin and Bongsoon in Strong Woman Do Bongsoon, although Hyungsik, I mean Minmin looked less mature then and also there wasn’t a kiss scene in this…at least not yet…I have a good feeling that the kiss scene will happen but probably not till the middle part of the show…..I’m guessing maybe by episode 7 at the earliest and 10 at the latest…I could be completely wrong about when Jungwoo and Haneul will kiss but the kiss is gonna come regardless…..

I liked how she just shook his hands. When they were at the store bench eating ice cream, Hanuel said they are not friends, they are just acquaintances tied by administrative duties, which means they are just connected like that by going to the same school…i.e schoolmates/classmates….Even when they were just eating ice cream together, Jungwoo already saw Haneul as a friend, I think Haneul did as well but she is more shy about it. And once again back at the beach, he actually puts his hand out and asks her to be his friend. She shyly shakes his hand and agrees to it.

I wasn’t gonna ship this Park Park couple but I think I just can’t help but to do so. It doesn’t help that Hyungsik is very good being a chemistry maker. Also, I haven’t seen a Park Shinhye drama in forever and seeing her again like this is refreshing. Her interaction with our dear Shikkie is pretty cool. I guess I’m gonna be shipping the two Park Park couples now but which one is the winner? I dunno, honestly….

Lastly, Jungwoo’s mom didn’t even care that her son was bed ridden at school. She was more concerned that he didn’t get the number one spot while Haneul’s mom cared about her well being more than anything. Back in high school there was a time when both Jungwoo and Haneul were at the school’s nurses office both laying in bed but Jungwoo’s momdidn’t care whether he was okay or not while Haneul’s mom was worried about her.

I was really worried about this series before it aired on the 27th of last month but so far it’s going good. It’s super funny while it’s serious at the same time. I love the interaction between Hyungsik and Shinhye. I also like the interaction between Jungwoo and Haneul’s family. I love how I get to see different spectrums of Hyungsik’s character here. It’s so cool how I get to see him being super funny again. Jungwoo’s personality is a cross between Dalbong, Changsoo, Minhyuk, Seonwoo, Yeonwoo, Lee Hwan and Park Hyungsik himself. I honestly think that Jungwoo is even closer than Minhyuk to Hyungsik, personality wise.

I also like Jungwoo’s hair more than Minmin’s hair. Jungwoo’s hair is similar to Changsoo’s but nicer….maybe cus his hair is black and Hyungsik really looks hot with black hair. Also, there are some similarities with Minhyuk, Seonwoo and even himself hair style wise.

This drama is funny but it’s mysterious…..I have a feeling that the evil looking guy with glasses with his own plastic surgery business is the culprit……We can’t say for sure but so far it seems like this guy has something to do with it……We need to find out who framed Jungwoo and made him lose everything he worked so hard for…..I guess we will get more clues tomorrow……….I’m looking forward to it…..

  1. Yes, Jungwoo, my fault. It’s a mistake on my keyboard that auto completed the word.
I think the absence of his parents contrasts with the constant presence of Haneul’s family.

  2. Yeonwoo?

    You mean Jungwoo hehehe….

Jungwoo’s mother is so terrible……I understand that she worries about the status quo but at least worry about your kid a little bit geesh….

  3. Most people are not heroes, most people have lives to live, they can’t make sacrifices even though they know that it is wrong for them to ignore their wrongfully accused colleague……

Most people are regular folks trying to just get by so they have no room to do to heroic things, kinda sucks though…

  4. Yeonwoo had to become “perfect student/son/friend/doctor” in the eyes of the world because that was the only way he could get affection from his family and friends.
I believe that he doesn’t regret so much the material losses that he suffered as the emotional abandonment that he is experiencing now.

  5. It’s very realistic that Haneul’s former coworkers turned their back on her in the wage claim, even after checking that they are also victims of that fraud. They want to avoid being linked to a “troubled” former worker. It’s unfair for Haneul but it’s a typical attitude of people who are afraid of being jobless and just want to save their ass.
