SOUNDTRACK #1(2022)

·

This show has a small pool of characters but it mainly focuses on Han Seonwoo played by our dear Park Hyungsik and Lee Eunsoo played by Han Sohee.

Han Seonwoo is a photographer who lives with his Sunbae/Senior photographer. He is trying to make it out there in the world and he’s been at it for awhile to become one of the best photographers in the world. However, there is something or rather someone who is more important to him than his love of photography and that is his childhood love, Lee Eunsoo. They have known each other for nearly twenty years but they were in the friendzone forever!

Seonwoo and Eunsoo love going to a very homey bar/restaurant owned by their mutual friends that are a married couple; Gyeol Han hyung/oppa and Mari Unnie/Noona. This place is a place where Seonwoo and Eunsoo hang out and unwind.

Park Hyungsik plays such a laid back character here unlike in What happens to my family, High Society, and Strong Woman Do Bongsoon. Seon Woo is a one woman man, I’m not saying that PHS’S other characters weren’t but Seonwoo even more so since he was in love with Eunsoo for like eight years or maybe even more than that. They have known each other since elementary school, but Seonwoo realized that he was in love with his forever childhood friend Eunsoo before he left for the military.

Like I mentioned Seonwoo is a photographer but Eunsoo is a lyricist. Her dream is to write a song for this hot male singer by the name Jay Jun played by Seo Inguk who is famous for his drama Reply 1997.

One day Eunsoo had to write a love song dealing with unrequired one sided love but Eunsoo has trouble coming up with genuine heartfelt lyrics, it makes sense since she’s never experienced that sorta thing before. She does manage to write something and she hands it to her boss who is like the producer of this project, but it gets rejected. Her boss’s name is Kang Wooil played by Kim Joohun and he wants a very specific type of lyrics for his love song. He tells her that Eunsoo can come back in the future and write a different kind of song but she won’t take a no for an answer. Eunsoo tells Wooil her boss that she wants to write this particular song and ask him to give her two more weeks to write the proper lyrics that he wants. Eunsoo tells Wooil that if she can’t seem to come up with anything by two weeks she will just let it go and her boss agrees to this.

Eunsoo and Seonwoo hang out at their homey cafe/bar/restaurant place and Eunsoo starts complaining about how she has to write about being into a sad unrequired one sided love. She is in a drunken state for having too much Makgoli and kept on complaining that she has to write this dumb song about one sided love then she asks him about his love life then finally she asks Seonwoo if he is able to stay at her house for two weeks to help her write the lyrics. When Seonwoo gives Eunsoo his two scents about unrequired one sided love, Eunsoo asks if he is able to say all this cus he is experiening it. Then she asks if she’s a Latina or an American and she asks if her name is Jennifer, Elizabeth….but when she said Jennifer I couldn’t help but to laugh and I was like it’s me it’s me through my computer screen cus my name is Jen and all.

At first Seonwoo turns her down, saying that her house is messy but he surprises Eunsoo by showing up with his suitcase the next morning. The door bell wakes her up and him being right in front of her door surprises her. I could understand why though because he turned her down the night before but he shows up on her front door. Seonwoo had nowhere else to go cus his roommate and a sunbae photographer had his girlfriend over so he decided to take Eunsoo’s offer and this is where their journey begins.

Once Seonwoo arrives he helps Eunsoo clean her messy house then they eat some simple food then Eunsoo makes something good for dinner and they accompany it with their favorite drink in the show; Makgeoli! The both drank way too much Makgeoli and this really effected Eunsoo.

They both laid down on the floor to go to sleep. However, Eunsoo’s the only one that was actually sleeping while Seonwoo was just laying down and staring at her. There was something that Eunsoo did that caught Seonwoo off a bit, she started hugging him to sleep which surprised him. He tried getting her off of him but that made her want to hug him more, she even put her leg on his which he couldn’t really do anything about. Seonwoo’s heart was beating like crazy but he tried to keep his cool. Seonwoo has so much patience cus most guys would have taken advantage of that situation. I love Seonwoo so much cus HE IS SUCH A GENTLEMAN that really cares about this woman that he fell in love with for Eight consecutive years and then some….

Eunsoo was dead asleep since she’s so wasted that she didn’t get to see Seonwoo staring at her all through out the night but she did find out the next morning, that scene is effin it! The scene where Seonwoo and Eunsoo are intertwined with each other and staring at each other so closely is such an iconic scene when it comes to Soundtrack 1#!

I really love the song called Love Love Love sung by Seobin and Seonwoo and Eunsoo are staring each other so throughly, carefully and somewhat passionately, while Love Love Love is being played in the background. It literally gives me butterfly in my stomach just watching these two stare at each other so gently but yet passionately.

The pacing is rather slow but I really like it, it’s very soothing and this show proves that shows don’t have to be busy to be worth watching. I think the Eunsoo and Seonwoo are very genuine, it’s hard to find characters like this in today’s romance tv shows. Also, a guy like Seonwoo is such a gem….a guy that would only love one woman for 8 years is proof that Han Seonwoo is so worth it.

Eunsoo keeps on talking about this, “Jennifer” from America that Seonwoo has a crush on, and it’s kinda sad to Seonwoo just sucking it up all by himself. Seonwoo was probably saying in his head, “It’s you silly, not Jennifer!” Seonwoo talks about how with one sided love you have to just suck it up even if your feelings are about to burst out and explode. I love the part where Seonwoo goes back to his studio and looks at all the photos he’s taken of her, especially the one with her in a white top.

Eunsoo doesn’t want to be suspcious that this person Seonwoo has a crush on is her, I want to safely assume that she does know but she’s trying to ignore the feeling cus she feels the same but she doesn’t want to act on it because she is afraid of losing him completely.

There’s a scene where Seonwoo goes to his studio and looks at all the photos that he took of Eunsoo and reminices of the time when Eunsoo, Mari, Gyeolhan and himself all get together at Mari’s restaurant to get ready to celebrate Seonwoo possibly winning for this very prestigeous photoshoot competition. Seonwoo gets second place and Eunsoo’s getting ready to call them and make a complaint.

I really loved the outfit that Seonwoo was wearing for the scene above, he was wearing a college sweater, blue jeans, tennis shoes and his hair very plain. He just looked like a guy next door which I really dug.

Eunsoo was starting to get depressed because a sad song was coming on at the restaurant and she told Mari to change it. She was thinking about her ex boyfriend who dumped her and Mari and Gyeolhan were telling her to just forget about that loser and date Seonwoo instead. However, Eunsoo was saying she can’t because she’s dealing with a heartbreak of some dude that she just dated for a short period of time but if she dated Seonwoo, her best friend, the break up would be a severe heartbreak for her.

Eunsoo was basically saying she wont be able to handle the break up with Seonwoo which means it’ll be way worse than just any ol random guy. She never pursued Seonwoo cus she wants to keep him around forever basically. Just this alone lets you know that Eunsoo does like him too, she just didn’t want to make it a reality because of her fear of losing him completely if it doesn’t work out.

Who would want to lose a guy like Seonwoo…He is genuine, nurturing, caring, sincere, dependable and faithful? I wouldn’t so I completely feel her.

There were plenty of other scenes from Soundtrack I enjoyed like the part where Eunsoo’s mother shows up and the lady that played the mother is the actress Lee Jung Eun who is famous for playing the housekeeper in the movie Parasite which was directed by Bong Joonho.

The mother lives in Jeju Islands of South Korea and this place is famous for their mandarin oranges/Tangerines. She always brings tangerines from Jeju Islands that Eunsoo is tired of them and asks Seonwoo to help her eat them.

Eunsoo’s mom does a Tarot reading for the two and the card that Seonwoo picked was of two people walking closely but she lied to them saying it’s about someone far away then later on before leaving, the mother gave the card to Seoonwoo and told him to keep it.

Also, the scene where Seonwoo announces him going off to the military to Eunsoo at her job was something that made feel this weird emotion from it but it makes sense since this is the scene where Eunsoo actually felt something deep. Seonwoo was always there for her, so close that she had a habit of taking him for granted until he left her side for the first time and that was when he left for the military.

Eunsoo was literally sobbing while she was still at work. Flash forward to 8 years, Seonwoo had to leave again. He had to leave to go to Cuba or something to work with a super famous photographer and Eunsoo saw him off this time. As soon as he got on the bus to go to the airport, Eunsoo was sobbing again.

The scenes above prove that Eunsoo really can’t do without OUR DEAR HAN SEONWOO!

I love how Seonwoo is not only a one woman man but very sentimental. When Seonwoo gets into an argument with Eunsoo because she was constantly prying about his love life, and then when Eunsoo finds out that she was the one sided love that Seonwoo was talking about because his sunbae was asking Eunsoo to do something for him. This is when Eunsoo and Seonwoo get into a minor quarrel then they don’t really speak to each other for awhile. However, Seonwoo being Mr. Romantic he is, he makes up with her by giving his childhood love some flowers.

I also love how Eunsoo and Seonwoo both get jealous of each other when their friend is meeting up with someone else. There was a scene where Eunsoo goes to meet up with her producer for a song writing project, he gets in her car with her to along for the ride with her. When he finds out that she’s going to go meet her boss, Seonwoo gets jealous. From what Eunsoo was saying, you get the impression that Seonwoo wasn’t fond of all her male friends, even male co-workers but it makes sense since in his mind, Eunsoo belongs to him and him only.

Eunsoo is a reckless driver and Seonwoo was holding onto his dear life and that was funny then they get to the office where Eunsoo meets with her boss which bugs the heck out of Seonwoo. Wooil offers Eunsoo some orange juice and he gives the grape juice to Seonwoo but he switches the drink with his childhood love.

Seonwoo can’t seem to stand this guy let alone anyone that Eunsoo meets that not him. Seonwoo even follows Eunsoo and Wooil to this fancy restaurant and to spy on them. This really got me to think that Seonwoo does not like Eunso seeing other men.

Eunsoo goes out on a date with Wooil but it was after Seonwoo shows her the old bike they used to ride as children. Seonwoo basically taught Eunsoo how to ride a bike. The bike was too old that it needed to be fixed so Seonwoo fixes it for her but she didn’t seem to care and went out on a date instead. Eunsoo doesn’t realize how much Seonwoo cares about her and She can’t live without Seonwoo until he leaves for Cuba.

While Seonwoo is away, she starts to miss her bestie Seonwoo. Her new song did well so she wanted to let him know about it so she texts him but nothing. Normally he would have texted her by now and the silence was killing her. She thought about the time when she first became a lyricist and she was telling Seonwoo that she wants to be a successful lyricist and he was there for her all the way. He was there to be her moral support but not anymore which broke her heart. This whole scene was so heartfelt. I think it was a process of Eunsoo slowly coming to the realization that she might be feeling the same way, her actions were showing it but not her words…….

I honestly think that Eunsoo wasnt feeling the void that big when he left for the military even though she still kind did to some degree since she was sobbing her eyes out at work.

Once Seonwoo comes back, this is when things take a turn. But before he comes back, Eunsoo has been waiting for Seonwoo’s call and there was nothing from him so she begins to worry so she goes to the Photography studio to talk to his seonbae photographer. Whil Eunsoo is there Seonwoo calls his seonbae briefly and Eunsoo realized that the sunbae was talking to Seonwoo, she wanted to talk to him. However, he already hung up so she was so upset about it…..This whole scene made me think about Eunsoo missing him and yearning for him. Once Seonwoo leaves, Eunsoo realizes what it’s like to love someone and it being one sided, this helps her to see what Seonwoo has been going through for eight years plus.

Once Seonwoo returns Eunsoo is happy to see him and she’s the one now stalking him. She brought him food and drinks to the studio where he works at. Seonwoo now has an assitant who helps him with his work and everytime Eunsoo visits him in his studio she is there constantly flirting with him and hitting on him. This bothered Eunsoo to no end, she is finally experiencing what Seonwoo had to go through for eight years, watching his childhood love hooking up with other guys, him witnessing her breaking up to a lesser degree.

The assistant girl who was constantly hitting on Seonwoo was kinda annoying, she did not want to take a no for an answer. However to some degree I can understand since Sonewoo is handsome, professional, a gentleman and very sweet.

The thing I liked about how Seonwoo reacted to this girl flirting and hitting on him was the fact that he was very professional about it. He was still friendly towards her but firm about how he views their relationship. He wanted to just keep a professional relationship with her and that’s it.

Finally, Eunsoo realizes that she’s in love with Seonwoo and she’s able to finally finish the song herself without Seonwoo’s help. The kiss scene was worth the wait. They didn’t rush into it. It’s almost like letting a good coffee brew for a long time and a good pot of stew cooking for a long time but the quality is supberb. The kiss scene at the restaurant that their friends own was so sweet and beautiful. You can’t help but to want both of them to be happy. It’s a slow pay off but it’s so good. Seonwoo actually earned it unlike a lot of these male protagonists in shows.

In the epilogue Seonwoo and Eunsoo are finally together. They are sitting on the sofa listening to music together while Eunsoo is in Seonwoo’s arms. I like how Seonwoo pinches her cheeks, it’s so adorable. I really envy Han Sohee even though it’s just acting. I wish that was me. I wish I can get my fluffy cheeks pinched by Hyungsik oppa.

I really love this show, I think I would be rewatching this show over and over again until I get sick of it but I don’t think I will get sick of watching Park Hyyungsik, the handsome guy next door who is romantic and sweet.

I RECOMMEND THIS SHOW BIG TIME! WATCH IT! YOU WONT REGRET IT! I GIVE THIS SHOW A 9.9! YOU CAN WATCH IT ON DISNEY PLUS!
