HIGH SOCIETY (2015)

·

The four main actors and actoresses for this show are Sungjoon, Uee, Park Hyungsik and Lim Jiyeon. Most people would probably agree with me on this but I prefer the second couple more than the main one. The main couple are Jang Yoonha and Choi Joonki played by Uee and Sungjoon. I really think that the second couple was far more interesting in this one and I don’t think High Society is the only drama that has a better second couple than the main one.

Jang Yoonha does not get along with her siblings and her father has a mistress so basically the whole family is kinda screwed up. Jang Yoonha’s siblings are practically fighting over their father’s company and Yoonha is sick of all this so she lives her own life by working as a regular employee at the big local grocery chain and that’s where she meets her bestie Lee Jiyi played by Lim Jiyeon. Yoon ha seems to get along with her female friend from a lower class than her rich siblings that just want to bring her down more than anything. Yoonha’s family might be rich but the relationship dynamic between everyone is truly unstable. Yoonha falls for Joonki because she thought that his intentions were pure at the beginning although he does grow to love her.

Choi Joonki is from a humble background and he is hungry for success. He tends to become friends with people with prestigious background and follow people that have success to their names. This is why he becomes friends with Yoo Changsoo since they were in High School and acts like he is in love with Jang Yoonha at the beginning. Joonki’s family is a typical commoner type. His dad is a security guard for an apartment complex and his mom is a homemaker. Lee Jiyi had a thing for Joonki at the beginning of the show until Yoo Changsoo comes into her life.

Yoo Changsoo is a chaebol son. He is from a very well to do prestigious family. He has two older brothers that are very successful in the company, his father is rarely seen in the show, and his mom is a little too involved with his private matters including his relationships. He knows that he won’t be able to marry the woman he loves so he ends up just dating all kinds of different women. In these chaebol households they have to marry women that have some kind of business ties with the family. Yoo Changsoo starts out as a realistic guy accepting the reality of his future, so lived his life as a playboy in his early years but that changes when he meets Lee Jiyi a poor commoner girl who works at the grocery store he is managing, with Jang Yoonha,

Lee Jiyi is a poor commoner girl that lives up at her rooftop apartment with a fabulous view who fantasizes about meeting a chaebol and even dating one by watching these trendy rom coms with rich chaebol guys but she’s a realistic girl who doesn’t want to have anything to with a chaebol guy in real life because she doesn’t want to be heartbroken.

She’s watched so many dramas like these so she knows the outcome of the fate of these poor girls that date these rich guys. It’s either their mother or some family member coming between them so they end up breaking up in the end or if they do marry it will be a be troublesome one. So this is why Jiyi doesn’t want to start anything with Yoo Changsoo even though it’s clear that she fell in love with him from the get go. Lee Jiyi does try her best to pretend that shes not interested and pushes Changsoo away but this is so cus she doesn’t want to end up like some of those girls in the dramas she watches.,

Yoonha went out on a blind date to meet Changsoo because both of their families wanted that but Yoonha dislikes arrange marriages and blind dates so she decided to dress up like a rocker chick to go see Changsoo and this behavior did not impress him at all.

Changsoo is a bit different than Yoonha in disregard because even though he is not a huge fan of arrange marriages he decides to accept his fate and go along with it. For one he is proud of his status quo and doesn’t want to give it up, at least before he meets Jiyi and ends up really liking her…..Second, his almost like a mamas boy and he would like to satisfy her and keep her happy. However, all this changes after he meets a commoner Lee Jiyi and falls for her.

I think Heirs tried using the cinderella formula but didn’t do a good job as it could have but I feel like High Society improved in trying to follow the BOF formula. Maybe its cus MY dear Hyungsik had a major role and he was add some spice into the project……

Lee Jiyi’s character is kinda funny and spunky kinda like Keum Jandi from BOF but for some reason the actress just kinda annoys me a bit….

I did think that the push and pull aspect at the beginning, is the kind of thing that makes rom-coms fun in a way. Yoonha and Joonki are kinda bland, and all the family members are the typical people that were used to seeing in these rom-com types of trendy dramas with chaebols. So the whole time I was more focused on Changsoo and Jiyi more than anything and it doesn’t help that Hyungsik is my bias when it comes to Korean male actors.

I thought the parts where Jiyi plays silly games with Changsoo is funny. For instance she would tell Changsoo that she doesnt want to date him but the more she pretends to reject him, she falls harder and harder for the guy.

I totally love the kiss scenes in this show….This show proved that Park Hyungsik is a GOOD KISSER

Our dear Sikkie is such a good kisser so I welcome it with open arms as long as he doesn’t do anything explicit I’d be fine……

Anyways, the main reason why I watched this show was for Sikkie of course, so my focus was all on him whether he’s the main couple or the second couple……

I really loved the frog story or the frog analogy that Changsoo tells Jiyi. He starts out as a womanizer, cus he wanted to get his having fun completely out of the way while he is able to since he knows that fun and games will be over once the family is ready to find him a mate that the Yoo family wants him to marry.

Jiyi was so smart though, she was able to both control Changsoo and even his mother to a degree because just like majority of these rom com trendy dramas, we defintely have to have the mother to mess things up and oh yes, she tries for sure but fails miserbaly.

It’s cool that the people from different classes are able to fall in love and get married instead of going through a loveless marriage and all.

Oh and I love one of the OST Sung by our dear Sikkie himself, You’re my love…He has such a gorgeous voice yikes!

I like this drama a lot but I think I like What Happens to my family a little more and Hyungsik was gorgeous…no matter what he wears and no matter how he does his hair he is such a stud but even then I wasn’t a huge fan of his particular hairstyle for this show……

I dig a more boy next door type for him….His hair that I like the most is Jung Yihyun from Happiness, Han Seonwoo from Soundtrack #1 and Friendcation as Himself….I’ll definetely review those shows mentioned above and get to the nitty gritty of it all……

But yea, overall fun show!
