I have to say this is my favorite drama with my favorite actor Kim Bum! I have seen handful of dramas with Kim Bum in the last few months but nothing has satisfied me as much as this particular one that came out in the early part of this year.
This show is about a very talented genius doctor of Eunsang hospital played by Rain who is a bit self centered and cocky, but something happens to him early on in the show and so his ghost ends up pocessing Go Seung Tak’s body played by Kim Bum of course. Go Seung Tak’s grandpa is the founder of the hospital so it was somewhat easy for him to work for the hospital….However, he is brilliant with all kinds of medical knowledge but when it comes to being a suregon he has zero talent whatsoever. Cha Young Min (Rain) the brilliant surgeon who pocesses the golden hand is cocky and sometimes thoughtless towards his patient but Go Seung Tak ( Kim Bum) has all kinds of theoretical knowledge but he does not pocess the golden hand to become a surgeon. Go Seung Tak is known as the shit hand/crap hand cus his surgical skills with his hands just can’t seem to back up all the medical knowledge he has in his head.
Jang Se Jin (Uee) is a neurosurgen and Oh Soo Jung ( Son Naeun) also known as Crystal is an intern who is barely starting out. Go Seung Tak is a residency in training who has been at it for a year now. With an accident that happened to Cha Young Min, this got him to pocess Go Seung Tak’s body and all kinds of funny and interesting things happen while Cha Young Min takes over Go Seung Tak’s body to resolve some things that he couldn’t do while he was in a more normal state.
I really loved the chemistry between Rain and Kim Bum. I have seen so many dramas with Kim Bum in it in the last few months and I don’t think I laughed this much really. I really dig Kim Bum’s fluffy hair in this show. His hair wasn’t the only thing that was fluffy, his personality was fluffy as well. Go Seung Tak the character is a little spoiled since his grandfather is the founder of the hospital but unlike a lot of characters that were born with a golden or silver spoon in their mouths, Go Seung Tak is very warm and bubbly.
Kim Bum really proved his acting chops more than anything in this show. He always had the chops but the shows that he was in after Boys Over Flowers and before Tale of the nine tailed didn’t allow us to see what he’s capable of. Bummie oppa really proved what he could do in Ghost Doctor. He is really good with comedy, it’s not too much of a surprise since he was in Unstoppable High Kick way back when and that show was a sitcome so it’s not a complete surprise. Bummie’s comedic timing is great and he is also good with slapstick comedy. When Cha Young Min leaves his body after pocessing it, the body languge of Go Seung Tak is hilarious. He would go, “Where am I? What am I doing here?”.
Also, Bummie is so natural going from Go Seung Tak to Cha Young Min so naturally. His voice, body language, mannerisms are the things that help the viwers determine if he is Seung Tak or Young Min and he does it so naturally that the viewers are convinced what he’s trying to do. There is a part in the show where Go Seung Tak is sucking on lollipop like a little kid and the moment Young Min pocesses his body, He goes, “Eek, what is this and where is that kid?” In Young Min’s mannerisms. Kim Bum said in some interview that he studied Rain in detial. He studied Rain’s facial expressions, his lines, the way he walks, the way talks, and his tone of voice. Bum also studied the medical terms to famliarized them so they would sound natural to him when he says them.
Just like what Bum was saying in this one interview, he was disappoined that the story didn’t close out Seung Tak and Soo Jung’s relationship. After watching the show repeatedly since I’ve been so obassesed with this show, my views on Seung Tak and Soo Jung changed. I think I was being unfair at first thinking that their chemistry wasn’t through the roof but it’s very subtle at the beginning…However, it grows strong with each viewing. I must say that I’m a TakJung shipper now. I’m kinda sad that they didn’t officially close out their relationship, I think the would make a good couple……Now I ship three couples….TakJung, JoonSolA, and SoEul…
So Yi Jung from Boys over Flowers was born with gold or silver spoon in his mouth but he wasn’t a warm person…He was deep within but you had to get it out of him and that’s what Chu Gaeul was there for. However, Go Seung Tak’s just so dorky, fluffy and warm from the get go. I loved the part where he would call Soojung Crystal in his bratty voice.
Lee Rang from Nine Tailed was sexy and hot but Go Seung Tak is such a goof. His chemistry with Son Naeun/ Crystal Oh the love interest was kinda cute but not as off the charts as with Rain. It’s strange because his chemistry with Sejin seemed more relevant for some reason.
I really liked the storyline in general because as Cha Young Min pocessess Go Seung Tak’s body he changes into a better man, learns about what he missed out in his normal state. Also while lending his body to Dr Cha, Go Seung Tak learned to take his job as a doctor more seriously. I love the way these two polar opposite characters learned from one another.
I’ super into these types of fantasy story dealing with spirit and soul so that’s another part of the reason why I enjoyed this show, along with the story line and the acting from Rain and my Bummie oppa……
The music was good but I liked the music from Law School slightly better though. However, the more you watch the show your general views of the show would change. I would have to say that my thoughts on the music of the show changed. I actually like it as much as the music from Law School, if not more. They know exactly when to use the background music. For instance the kind of music they use when they do comedy, it’s so perfect cus they go well together.
P.S: I forgot to mention that this show does comedy really well. Not just comedy but fantasy, comedy, rom-com, mellow drama, suspense, drama, and medical all in one!
