Kim Phil Seung, Jung Eun Hak and Jang Gwang Mo, played by Yongwoo oppa, Ryu Shiwon and Lee Sangin are the three main male characters of Paper Crane. The other two significant characters are Cha Seri (Cha Yeon Hee) played by Song Yoonah and Cho Nayeon played by Myung Sebin. This show is real cute because of those five young characters I mentioned..Eun Hak is the main character here and falls in love with Nayeon played by Myung Sebin. Their backgrounds are different. Eun Hak, Phil Seung and Gwang Mo are good friends, almost like brothers since they all grew up in the same orphange together.
Eun Hak is the calm and reasonable one, Gwangmo is the childlike one, Philseung he is a good guy but he appears to be a little shallow on the outside.Phil Seung works at a local dry cleaners and he lives there. Eun Hak and Gwangmo lives in a warehouse, on the outskirts of Seoul.
Yongwoo oppa was so handsome and he wants to be a club dancer so he takes lessons and there he meets Cha Seri. Eun Hak works at the discount grocery store and Gwangmo works at a recycling place. Eun Hak is also an aspiring race car driver.
This show came out when the Asian economic crisis happened in the late 90s so people were struggling a lot at that time and the show reflects on that quiet a bit…..Nayeon’s family was well to do but his father’s business went bankrupt and this was a common thing that happened in the late 90s in Korea and some other Asian countries. This is why Nayeon couldn’t continue studying music abroad and had to return to Korea. On top of that she had to get a job at the discount grocery store to make ends meet due to what happened to her father’s business and this is where she meets Eun Hak and falls in love with him.
Kim Pilseung is a more outgoing character than Jung Eun Hak. Pilseung works at the dry cleaners and lives there as well. However, he is not so happy just delivering people’s laundry and going around apartment complexes collecting them. He dreams about becoming a dancer/dance instructor instead of being stuck at the dry cleaners all day ironing clothes. He lies to the owner of the dry cleaners saying that he’s taking a computer class to make the shop more digital in this changing times.
Pilseung ends up going to the dance studio to learn some dance moves so he can work as a dancer at the club at night after he’s done with his dry cleaning work for the day. There he meets Cha Seri, most people that she knows calls her Seri unnie, except for her younger sister at home who is a smart college student. The moment Pilseung lays eyes on Cha Seri, he falls in love with her……Cha Seri ends up conning him of some of the money that Pilseung, Eun Hak and Gwang Mo saved up for their younger brother at the Orphange so he can get his surgery for disease.
Pilseung is so devastated and guilty for being scammed of that money the three friends saved up for Eun Sang, the younger brother at the orphange…….And Eun Hak decides to go to the club that Seri works at to get the money back from her. Of course she didn’t give the money back but instead she falls for Eun Hak and becomes a sweetheart.
Pilseung got private lessons from Seri and learned different kinds of dance moves and style. Pilseung was very popular with the older ladies there….They liked him so much that they gave him a fat tip after they danced a bit on the dance floor but unfortunately, he meets a real con artist who was pretending to give this young guy everything she had, as long as he was willing to give himself to her…..
Gwang Mo was so cute because he was like a little child despite the fact that he’s the same age as Pilseung and Eunhak. He wore bugs bunny ear muffs and a little dinosaur scarf…..He did most of the cooking, cleaning and laundry after work, like a housewife. I really liked Gwang Mo’s innocence even though he didn’t seem all there mentally.
I felt bad for Pilseung because he couldn’t get the woman of his dreams and I felt the same way about Seri because she gives up on her love in the end. I almost feel like they could possibly get a chance together because of the way the show ended. I thought I wasn’t gonna like Seri at first cus she really did come off to me like the bitchy type but by the end I liked her more than Nayeon. Nayeon was boring and annoying. She was so dull from the beginning till the end. However,Seri was a lot of fun once she befriends the boys. I thought she looked really cute Pilseung….She looked so gloomy standing next to Eun Hak. Seri has a character arc cus she starts out as this bitchy scam artist type but she actually has a heart of gold once you get to know her.
I watched this show cus of Yongwoo oppa but I would have to say Seri is my favorite character then Pilseung and then Gwang Mo. Eun Hak and Nayeon are the actual main characters but they are dull and boring.
This show is really hard to find. I lucked out and I was able to watch it one youtube but not anymore cus they took it down recently. I’m sad cus I won’t get to see Yongwoo oppa’s cute and handsome Kim Pilseung! I wish they have this on DVD somewhere then I would buy it in a heartbeat.
I still can hear Kim Pilseung going “Setak! Setak!” which means “Laundry! Laundry!” which is part of Pilseung daily activity working at the dry cleaners. I have to mention this too which I forgot…..I really liked the little banter between Pilseung and the old dry cleaners owner. Ever since PIlseung gets this bug called dancing and Cha Seri, he goes missing a lot. He would come back to the dry cleaners really late so the owner man would be always wondering where he’s been. Also, while Pilseung is away he would get all these calls from girls…mainly Seri and Nayeon so the owner tells him he has too many girlfriends. Oh and Pilseung lied to the owner saying that he’s gonna use certain part of the day to take a computer class but instead he’s busy learning how to tango and such from Seri.
