This is one of my favorite Korean drama of this year. The more I watch this show it brings warmth and also healing. I remember watching the making of, before the show actually came out and I remember Seung Ho saying that this drama is a ‘healing’ drama, at first I didn’t know how to take that. However, I realized that what Seung Ho said wasn’t misleading at all because every time I watch this show I feel very touched and moved.
This particular episode was very real for me because what Jong Hyun goes through is very real and it isn’t just some heightened reality that we see through our tubes. I am not gonna really say what Jong Hyun goes through in this particular episode but it’s something I have personally experienced so because of it I was able to relate to the character on a more personal level. A lot of the times in these dramas, it could be hard to relate to the characters since you hardly go through what you see but this drama is so different from that. This is surely a slice of life story for sure.
I like all the characters now. At first I was a little concerned about the whole romantic aspect of things but not anymore. I think they are not over doing it and it fits the general premise of the story, so it’s fine.
Hyun Jong Hyun and Boggil go through a rough patch at the beginning of the episode but they are able to make things okay again after awhile.
I like Jong Hyun’s friend named Yook Hae Gong, since he is very supporting. Also, Oh Na Woo seems to be very supportive too. I am starting to realize that a person like Jong Hyun needs those two people that are always there for him for the most part. He lives a very hard life, barely making ends meet, so having good people around him is very necessary. Jong Hyun is more worried about his cat than himself so that’s part of the reason why he sticks around working at Naeil Bookstore, despite how much of a pain in the butt the manager is. He does all for the cat, no matter how difficult his life may be.
I can’t help but to feel that Jong Hyun’s life is hard because he is so stuck in his ways. It’s good because you know what you want but at the same time not being flexible can cost you your dear dream in such a competitive world. By watching this show I think about Art vs Commerce. It’s either you do what you speaks to you or cater to the masses. As a writer myself, I totally understand Jong Hyun’s sentiment but also you gotta realize that you have to do what the audience likes too. So it’s hard to balance being able to be true to yourself as an artist and also gaining popularity because you are doing what the viewers want.
We are already at the half way point of the show. It’s only 8 episodes. I am looking forward to the latter 4 episodes but at the same time I am already feeling sad because I don’t want the show to end.
