Hello guys, I am a huge anime fan as well as Korean dramas. Sometimes I would fantasize about Korean actors becoming anime characters. So here is a list of some Korean actors that I chose that could possibly fit certain anime characters that I have enjoyed over the years.
10. Park Ji Bin as Kanji Sasahara from Genshiken.
The reason why I chose Park Ji Bin as Kanji Sasahara is because he is cute and innocent looking while I can kinda picture him being a nerd as well. I haven’t seen a lot of dramas with Park Ji Bin in it but I somehow can imagine him portraying a geeky Character like Sasahara.
Sasahra is a character from Genshiken. This is a show about college students that are into manga, anime and video games. These university students run a club within the school and they are like minded young men that enjoy their hobbies together.
9. Kim Soo Hyun as Son Gohan from Dragon Ball Z.
I saw Kim Soo Hyun in the movie The thieves and he has really proved himself to me. But what does this have to do with Kim Soo Hyun resembling Gohan from the famous anime Dragon Ball Z? If I can remember correctly Kim Soo Hyun’s role in the Thieves had a handful of action sequences but it was so hard to believe because his character looked so innocent.
Both in real life and also in his role from the thieves made me think that he was this innocent man that couldn’t fight at all but that wasn’t the case. Same goes for Gohan from this awesome anime. On the surface Gohan looks too weak to fight but then if you provoke him long enough HE WILL KICK YOUR ASS!
8. Ahn Do Kyu as Taijiri Satoshi from Pokemon.
I know that the two pictures contradict in some way but I had a hard time finding the right photo of the actor. The above actor’s name is Ahn Do Kyu and he is a child actor. However he is more like a teenager these days since he is about 15 years old. I first saw him in I Miss You/Missing You and he played the young Kang Hyung Joon so basically he played the child version of Yoo Seung Ho’s character.
The reason why I picked Satoshi from Pokemon for the child actor Ahn Do Kyu is because he is simply young. I think Satoshi is about 10 years old and I don’t really know too many male child actors and Ahn Do Kyu happens to be the youngest Korean actor that I am somewhat familiar with. At first I chose him just because of the closeness in age. Also, the more I looked at the two I was able to see Do Kyu being an adventurous kid raising Pokemons and challenging other kids.
In I Miss You/Missing You Ahn Do Kyu is a bit rough around the edges. He really doesn’t have a whole lot of innocence because of his family situation so in this regard he is very different from Satoshi but they are both survivors when you come down to it.
7. Kim Nam Gil as Takasu Ryuuji
Ryuuji Takasu is a character from Tora Dora and he is a high school boy. Naturally, Kim Nam Gil is a little bit on the older side to be portrayed as such a character. However, this is an exception to the rule since Ryuuji is a bit mature in the show anyways.
This boy takes care of himself and his young step mother and he also takes a girl name Aisaka Taiga under his wings. Yes, Taiga is one of his classmates that he befriends and becomes very close to. Also, I chose Kim Nam Gil for a character like Ryuuji because they both have very sharp eyes. At first glance both the actor and this anime character look very mean and unfriendly because of their super powerful looking eyes.
6. Yeo Jin Goo as Saotome Ranma from Ranma 1/2.
I first saw Yeo Jin Goo in a show called Warrior Baek Dong Soo and he played the child version of Ji Chang Wook’s character. In this particular drama he is supposed to be this martial arts prodigy so this is why I selected him as Ranma from Ranma 1/2.
Yeo Jin Goo kicks butt in Warrior Baek Dong Soo so I can see him fighting all kinds of enemies like Ranma. I am able to imagine Yeo Jin Goo in a braided hair due as well. The visuals are an added bonus but it’s the fact that the mentioned actor seemed to be very skilled in doing martial arts in front of the camera as well.
5. Lee Hyun Woo as in Luffy from One Piece.
I managed to find a picture of Lee Hyun Woo with a hat. The actor’s face seems naturally playful, energetic and spunky like Luffy from One Piece. So therefore, even without the hat the visuals would be right on but when you see Lee Hyun Woo with a hat you can see the resemblance with the anime character even more.
The actor Lee Hyun Woo just screams adventure and childlike curiosity, it’s all in the face and sometimes even in his fashion sense. Even though Lee Hyun Woo is fashionable he tends enjoy clothes that can help him move around freely just like Luffy.
I see Luffy and Lee Hyun Woo go hand in hand together, not only in the visuals department but also in their personality. Luffy seems like he is all about adventure, curiosity and he seems to be having fun doing all this. Lee Hyun Woo comes off as a person that would just take a backpack and go travel somewhere really far away. In my head I can picture Lee Hyun Woo on a ship cruising to some unknown destination. This is why I picked this particular actor to portray Luffy.
Joo Ji Hoon as Kakashi Sensei from Naruto.
I had a hard time finding the right person for Kakashi Sensei from Naruto but the winner is Joo Ji Hoon! Would you like to know why Joo Ji Hoon got selected to be Kakashi Sensei? The main reason is their height. The actor here is like over 6’1, pretty tall for a regular Asian man. Teacher Kakashi is fairly tall as well, I think he is slightly taller than Joo Ji Hoon from the looks of it.
Kakashi sensei is not a talker but he is a prodigy. This man is good at what he does and his teaching skills are fairly effective, he doesn’t have to talk a lot to achieve that. Also, the said teacher character is a bit of a dork since he loves reading erotic books.
I don’t know why but I can so imagine Joo Ji Hoon being this clean cut teacher that doesn’t talk very much. Also, I can totally see the actor doing his job well but when his students aren’t looking he is hiding in the corner somewhere reading dirty books. In other words Joo Ji Hoon seems like the type of guy that would surprise you.
3. Song Joong Ki as Light Yagami from Death Note.
Song Joong Ki is actually a smart guy in real life. Most actors and actresses in Korea don’t really graduate from university, let alone an ivy league type of place. Song Joong Ki is that kind of a guy, a man that was successful academically. This is why I chose Light Yagami from Death Note.
Light Yagami is the protagonist of the this particular anime and he is almost like a genius. Yagami might be a kid that’s super intelligent but he is fed up with the justice system and has a desire to get rid of all the criminals and with the notebook that comes into his hands which helps him somewhat achieve his goal.
I could totally see Song Joong Ki pulling of Yagami with his smart boy look. Yagami might be a high school student but he dresses very nicely and I think Song Joong Ki is the type that would dress in a very sophisticated way as well. I see the resemblance with these two.
2. Jang Geun Seuk as Eikichi Onizuka from Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO).
Jang Geun Seuk seems like a guy that is very action based, even in real life. I can only think of him out of all the Korean actors that could possibly handle troubled youth. Eikichi Onizuka might not have all the credentials but he has the will to deal with the difficult teenagers.
Inside and outside, Jang Geun Seuk very much reminds me of Onizuka Sensei. Onizuka is all about the heart, that passion to become that successful teacher despite his background. I can totally imagine Jang Geunk Seuk being like that too if he was in a similar situation.
Jang Geun Seuk would be the type that would be all heart no matter what kind of situation he is in. I think the said actor would have very similar teaching style as Onizuka. The teacher from GTO loves to ride motorcycles, he was in the biker gang after all. I can easily picture Jang Geun Seuk riding a motorcycle and cruising around town, even getting into trouble. Despite all that Jang Geun Seuk would be the type of teacher with a heart of gold, like Onizuka Sensei!
1. Yoo Seung Ho as Kyon from Haruhi Suzumiya and Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-Chan.
Even before I decided to write this post I thought about Kyon from Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-Chan for our dear Seung Ho. I honestly think it was the voice that contributed to that. Kyon has a very deep voice for a high school student. I watched a few stuff with Yoo Seung Ho in it where he was just a high school kid and he had a relatively deep voice too, even though he still had a little bit of that boyish voice left.
Kyon is not impressed about a lot of things that goes on around him. Kyon is surrounded by kids that are very unique and eccentric and he wants to live a normal life like most people in the world. Kyon becomes friends with the weirdos like: Haruhi,Yuki,Mikuru,Itsuki,Asakura and Tsuruya. These kids are all in a club in their high school called the SOS BRIGADE. How does this relate to Yoo Seung Ho at all? I don’t know, I can just picture in my head of Yoo Seung Ho just being so not impressed with how other people do things; especially wierdos.
I can picture Yoo Seung Ho acting the same as Kyon if he were to be near the members of the SOS BRIGADE. Also, I think Seung Ho would be very good at acting as someone that is expressionless like Kyon.
There is something that I shouldn’t leave out and that is the school uniform. Seung Ho would look so good in the school uniform from the Haruhi anime.
Last but not least, when it comes to complaining I could see Seung Ho resembling Kyon a bit. Kyon tends to complain a lot and often times he mumbles under his breath when talking about something bad. Yoo Seung Ho in real life is fairly reserved so I don’t think he would be complaining about things out loud, so, he would more or less do it under his breath like what Kyon does.
Bonus: Jo Hyun Jae as Rukawa Kaede from Slam Dunk.
I had to do this. I was looking through the list of male anime characters and I realized that I completely forgot about Slam Dunk. The moment I saw Slam Dunk go by I couldn’t help but to think about Jo Hyun Jae.
In real life Jo Hyun enjoys playing basketball, I think it’s one of his hobbies. From what I understand he played basketball a lot when he was in high school and he still does. I know that he is pretty good at too. As a matter of fact, I saw Jo Hyun Jae play basketball in a drama called Rays of Sunshine. Even though that was just in a drama he was pretty good at it.
For those of you who are not familiar, Slam Dunk is an anime show about basketball and probably it’s the best anime about basketball ever made. There are so many characters in this show and it can be a little overwhelming. I chose Rukawa Kaede for Jo Hyun Jae because they are both very good looking.
These two gentleman are also really popular with the ladies. I also need to mention that Rukawa and Jo Hyun Jae are super good at what they do. Last but not least they are very hard working. Even though Jo Hyun Jae and Rukawa might be super talented, they are not lazy when it comes to working on their craft.
There it is! I am so sorry if the actors and the characters seem pretty off, I did the best as I could. I hope you enjoyed this post. I am sure those of you that like both Korean dramas and anime simultaneously probably enjoyed this post a lot.
Thanks for reading!
